Rapport-Based Music: PMLD, Autism, LD and Dementia (ONLINE)

Learn how to lead music sessions for autism, learning disability and dementia care to find rapport and build relationships through music with people who are at risk of social isolation due to a communication disability.

The course is suitable for care workers, family members, clinical staff , musicians, teaching and support staff working in classrooms who would like a clear and practical team approach to musical interaction.

No previous musical experience is necessary to participate and use the appraoch  

Course content will include:

- The nature and importance of rapport
- The principles of rapport-based musical interaction
- A 7 song repertoire of interactive songs
- PDF Songbook, audio files and video backing tracks

Course fees

£55 for places funded by organisations and services

£25 for self-funded places

£10 for family members and personal assistants of a person with complex needs

Matthew Laurie has worked in care and education settings for people with additional and complex needs for over twenty years. He works in special schools on a weekly basis embedding person centred approaches to communication and music and teaches regular training days both online and in person. Matthew is a consultant trainer for leading special needs consultants Concept Training and specialises in working long term with care settings to develop communities of practice around person centred care.
