Just returned from a 5 day trip to Athens investigating the application of folkloric music and dance with people living with dementia and their care partners. I travelled light with a tenor guitar, treble recorder and riq drum which allowed be to join in with the rhythm, melody and accompaniment of traditional greek music in a culturally sensitive way. I supported Dr Richard Coaten, a dance and movement psychotherapist as we delivered training to dancers and musicians, and delivered workshops at a day care centre and at the Alzheimers Association Cares Conference at the Athens War Museum. We also met with the President of the Folk Dance Association to discuss future international collaboration. I have edited a film made of the trip which I will upload soon.
