Social Learning

I am currently Social Learning Consultant at three education and care settings for people living with autism and severe learning disabilities – Woolley Wood Special School (Sheffield), Fullerton Residential Special a School (Doncaster) ‘and Hesley Village (Doncaster). The purpose of my work is to develop communities of practice around responsive communication, intensive interaction and positive person work across the hierarchy of support workers, care managers, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists and executives. To achieve this I am developing and pioneering the methods taught to me by Etienne Wenger and Bev Wenger Trayner including the value creation framework.
I collaborate frequently with the NHS, as an independent leading workshops on social learning for the Co-Creation Network in Leeds and as part of our company Understanding Arts where my role is to develop communities of practice around person centred arts and positive person work in dementia and mental health care settings.
I offer a social learning consultancy service and can deliver keynotes, social learning workshops, community launches and long term collaboration.  Please contact me to start the conversation.

Creative Communication

Since 2001 I have worked with music, storytelling and intensive interaction with people with a severe communication disability arising from autism, learning disabilities or dementia.  While my main focus currently is to use social learning methods to help organisations to deliver high quality creative communication provision,  I work regularly with people with dementia in acute mental health setting as part of my company Understanding Arts (www.understandingarts.co.uk) and I have recently trained teachers in musical interaction and presented at conference on arts and dementia in Oxford (CDAN, 2015), Bucharest (Muzika, 2015) and Barnsley (Yorkshire Dance, 2015).
As an independent I can deliver training in musical interaction and storytelling for people supporting anyone with a communication disability.  Understanding Arts works to promote the importance of person centred responsive work with people in acutecmental health settings and more about this work can be found at www.understandingarts.co.uk.
